3 weeks ago, I promised myself not to build any other idea than my main business (PostPlanify - a social media scheduler I launched 6 months ago).
But obviously I couldn’t resist the temptation of building a B2C mobile app :)
This might be a wrong decision (probably) - but I didn’t want to regret in the future because of not trying my chances.
Coming up with an app idea
First of all, I needed to pick a niche.
This tweet from Ernesto helped me a lot (you can find all the trending app ideas here).
And I decided to go with the 1st one - helping people to quit gooning addiction.
The good news is there are many apps making $100k+/mo in this category.
And there’s millions of people struggling with this problem.
This definitely proves the idea is already validated.
But it also means there’s too much competition - which I don’t think this is much of a problem for B2C apps.
Becase if you do the marketing right, there’ll be always people seeing your product online + want to give it a try.
Building my IOS app
One thing I learned for certain so far is that you should:
keep the MVP as simple as possible
and ship it ASAP.
I used Claude Code to build the entire app.

Here’s my tech stack:
Swift (for an IOS native app)
NodeJS (backend)
Firebase (Auth + Database)
I didn’t write even a single line of code.
I took inspiration from all the existing apps out there + told Claude to build this for me by making small changes.
It took me 4 days to finish the app + send it for a review on App Store.
I got rejected for 4 times though 😅 it finally got approved in 5th try.

I already started warming up my TikTok + Instagram accounts in the meantime.
Let me know if you want to learn more about how to setup your social accounts to target US audience + warm up by the way!!
Launch

I launched my app on X first.
Even though I got lots of engagement from this and many other follow up tweets, there wasn’t much conversion coming from here (virality doesn’t necessarily mean more revenue 💰).
I’m still trying to find winner short-form content formats. Here’s my marketing strategy:
TikTok + Instagram + YouTube (min 3-4 posts / day)
Building in public on X
Reddit (talking about my product + reaching out to people who might need it) - I need to find a way of not getting banned here tho lol.
From all the successful app builders out there, I learned this is the best way to grow for B2C apps:
Nail the organic marketing first (especially on TikTok - it’s the easiest to go viral on)
After having some cash flow, start experimenting with UGC + influencer marketing
Once you have a list of several good performing posts, use them to run a paid ads campaign
So that’s what I’m going to do.
I already have a working product + strong onboarding.
So all I have to do is to create more organic posts.
I think I’ll have much stronger growth after I finally go viral (hopefully soon!!)
Conclusion:
This will be an exciting journey for sure.
One thing I’m very happy about is that I’m learning a lot along the way.
I can use this as a leverage to grow my next apps much faster in the future.
And most importantly, I’m enjoying the process.
I don’t think it will take too long to reach $10k MRR with this app if I just keep focusing on distribution.
At the end, it’s always all about marketing 🙂
Key Takeaways:
Ship the MVP in a few days: It’s not hard at all with all the vibe coding tools exist
Go all in marketing: Stop building more features and do full-time marketing. That’s what’s going to bring you sales 🤑
Copy what works: Your competitors already done lots of experiment with their onboarding, product, marketing etc. Just copy them + add your own touch. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel.
I’m sure many people will read this, but never take action (or stop after a few days).
Hopefully you won’t be one of them :)
